Rich Parker
Nottingham born painter Rich Parker is a self taught artists, influenced by his own surroundings and time spent in his grandfather's own art studio. Naturally consumed and drawn towards a creative future, Rich started his career as an artist very young. Together, he and his grandfather would visit local galleries, museums and stately homes which fuelled his ever growing love and passion for the arts. Fascinated by classical portraiture he decided to develop his own unique and dynamic portraits which convey both a complex sense of character and raw emotion. Working primarily on a large scale with oils on canvas, Rich enjoyed the freedom of such a flexible and adaptable medium. Over time he began painting with an unmatched level of energy and spontaneity using minimal brush strokes, giving each subject a direct and mesmerising gaze. By paying close attention to the facial shape, size, and expression Rich communicates a different emotion, creates an more specific and intense persona with a deeper, even mysterious intention behind the eyes. His broad swatches of colour, controlled blurring drips and trails of paint has an immediate impact and builds a different type of human connection and relationship with the viewer. We are intrigued and want to know more about each subject. In turn, we are in fact encouraged to create our own story and reality for the figure we are drawn to.
