Richard Heeps

Richard Heeps is a British-born contemporary photographer based in Cambridge. His distinct saturated style shuns the need for digital manipulation and pushes the boundaries of photography and the carefree American lifestyle. "Richard's seductive, highly saturated colours and sophisticated pictorial structures demonstrate a true love and empathy for his subject matter - be it cool descriptive interiors, still life or landscapes. His distinctive style pushes limits of photography". As a film based photographer, hes uses a range of vintage analogue cameras. He has three studios at his disposal: the external studio of whichever location he would be shooting, the dark room where he makes his master prints and his home studio where he does the post production where the artworks are mounted, framed and finished. The aim is to make his work accessible without compromising on quality so by making everything in house he has more control of each step to achieve the final outcome.

Even though Richard was brought up in East Anglia (England), he was heavily influenced by American culture. He visited American bases where he kept magazine cuttings and followed drag racing. The speed, lifestyle and technicolour is reflected in his vibrant imagery. The 'American' colour is a major aspect within his work and drives equipment and material choices. Since the age of 10 Richard has been participating in art shows. As a result he became extremely comfortable exhibiting and receiving the necessary criticism leading to his development and success as an artist. During this time Rich was fascinated with New York, this is evident in his is early painting's which draw inspiration from iconic styles, themes and locations surrounding Manhattan. Throughout his professional career Rich has exhibited his work in Museums, Galleries and international art fairs since the 1980s. The opportunity to exhibit in America, Asia and Europe has been a dream come true. The ability to travel and connect with a wider audience has influenced his ever growing portfolio. Recently, Richard has enjoyed tapping into his own unseen photographic archive taken over an incredible 20 year career. An exciting collaboration here at Knightsbridge Fine Art.
